|
|
I plan on flying into Auckland, New Zealand at the begining of November. I will be staying for about three weeks and then flying off to Sydney, Australia.
I basically want to work my way down south from Auckland to Wellington and then explore the South Island before flying from one of the cities there (Christchurch perhaps?) to Sydney.
My questions primarily relate to what I should do between my routes (Auckland-Wellington-South Island-departing city) and how much time in general I should spend there given that I only have three weeks in the country.
My main reason for wanting to visit New Zealand is to see its natural wonders (Lord of the Rings experience ) and samlple some of the cool extreme sports.
I'd also like to rent a car from Auckland to Wellington if the price is right. As for the South Island, I plan on using buses or the train.
In terms of accomidations, I want to do it as cheap as possible. And if I can stay in a tent at a National Park, I'd also be willing to do that too for a couple of nights. Can you rent tents there?
Some other questions include:
- What kind of food can I expect to eat there
- What will the weather be like in early November? can I wear shorts and a t-shirt during the day?
- What things should I watch out for in terms of safety?
- Where can I find weed?
- Weed?
- Any lingo I should know (I'm Canadian by the way)
Thanks in advance. |

yes I have....and the Lonely Planet books, and Wikitravel, and travel videos, ect...
However, first hand knowledge can offer some key details that are not found in these resources.
Thanks for trying a-hole |

hi!
I lived in New Zealand for a while, and just came back from my summer vacation there (well, winter over there, of course)
working over there, on a tourist visa, is as much of a crime as it is in Korea. Also, at the moment in NZ things are in a bit of a slump, so there's not much casual jobs available anyway. Not saying its impossible, but I wouldn't bet on it. Make sure you have enough funds to pay your way should you not be able to find jobs. Also, if you only have three weeks there, do you reaaly want to spend time looking for jobs, and working, and still try to see the sights?
I've been to most of the Lord of the Rings sites, and they are all very much out in the countryside (except for the Moria / Mordor quarry, which is not too far from Wellington)
But you can see some spectacular scenery without going the LOTR route.
Pity Te Papa no longer has the LOTR exhibit, if you're a fan...
If you rent a car, its quite safe to sleep in it in most places in NZ, so that can save you a lot on accomodation.
Food: in my experience you can get just about any kind of food you want, even in the smaller towns.
Weather in ealry November, shorts and t-shirt in the North, cooler as you go down South. If you're going down all the way to Invercargill / Dunedin, pack some warm clothes and rain gear.
Safety: no worries really, except maybe earthquakes and volcanoes, which you can't do much about!
Weed? no idea... never been into that |
