I know nobody else would post this, because people only like to trash the U.S. for the actions they disagree with and never commend them for their many generous, important actions around the world.

Georgia, the small ex-Soviet country on the Black Sea has two separatist provinces, South Ossetia and Abkhazia. 6 days ago, the Georgian military decided to reclaim a city in South Ossetia by use of force. Acting within its own internationally recognized boundaries, it used its right as a sovereign nation to reclaim its territory. Just like Russia did in Chechnya if you remember.

To critisize the timing of this is not an issue. There is no legal or moral excuse for Russia to invade an ex-territory that it once controlled. By sending in 15,000 troops, 150 tanks, several hundred armoured vehicles and numerous fighter jets, it is signaling to the world a new Era of Russian aggression in its pursuit of a new world order that it controls.

Since this has happened, both parties have signed a ceasefire and Russia has already broken it. Yesterday it rolled into the town of Gori, 20 km south of South Ossetia and destroyed Georgian tanks. Clearly breaking the truce, Russia said it was legal because it had to protect its peacekeepers and Ossetian's.

This is clearly rubbish.

This topic is already being discussed in the Current Events forum, which is the appropriate place given that it's not related to Korea:
