A runner-up to the Miss Korea crown has been stripped of her title because of some topless and semi-nude pictures she did while an undergarments model.

(Links are Not Safe For Work.)

If she's talented, she could do as Vanessa Williams did and gain revenge by being successful.
The punishment seems quite harsh, all things considered. Isn't it an open secret that Korean actresses are playthings of politicians and business leaders? (http://thegrandnarrative.wordpress.com/2008/07/09/sexist-korean-advertisements-a-new-blog-mem/ Scroll down to the story of Jackie Lim.) Wasn't Jeon Ji-hyeon a former call-girl who used to work the hotel dance clubs?

Kind of disgusting if true.

A LOT of washed up and B-list singers, actresses and "talent" end up working the upscale ($5,000 - $10,000) room salon circuit in Seoul.

It's also where A LOT of these girls get their start. There are some pretty powerful people going in and out of these places on a daily basis.

I'm not doubting you, but how do you know that to be true?

This sort of thing happens in the West too.

Of course a pretty young thing who wants to be a star will be used by powerful men.

It's called the casting couch.

It makes me consider being a show biz exec and/or taking a career in politics

We all know that.....I'm just sick and tired of the "well this also happens America or the West" argument every time something critical is said about Korea.

Oh, I didn't mean to do that. Why do uptight?

And I don't think many people are aware of it also happening in the West. It's less open there.

When I lived in Seoul back in the late 1970s, there was a story circulating about a Miss Korea getting dethroned because it turned out she was married. Scandals sure do change with the times!

All this fuss over a runner-up????

Let's pardon all the white collar criminals and a ton of blue collar felons but darn it, I want that $5000 she won as runner-up along with the cubic ziconia crown and that cool silver and shiny sash. She disgraced all the Korean runner-ups before her.

Thanks for another funny Korean story.
