I wouldn't say it is particularly pleasant, not by a long shot. Depends what your conception of 'good' is, I guess...

Is it polluted?
Is it very crowded?
Any American products, particularly food and restaurants?
Is there a foreign community?
Any quality parks?
Is it expensive? |

It's not a bad place Its about a 10 minute bus ride to the american army base. You would be about 25 minute bus ride from the american air force base in Songtan. It great if you want to get a little bit of america once in while. There is a rapid trade also which can get you to seoul quicker than the subway. If you like small quiet places, then it might be for you. |

it's in an area where farms were confiscated to build the new US military base - that will replace the one here in Yongsan gu - when the USAFK moves out of Seoul
there's been a lot of protests - a LOT - regarding this - and from what I've been told a great deal of anti-foreigner sentiment - allegedly some of the worst if not THE worst in K - so if you are asking because you are considering a position there, just be forewarned. |

I've been to both Anjung-ri and Songtan on a regular basis...Anjung-ri is in Pyongtaek City and is close to the US Army base...Lots of bars, shops and restaurants catering to the military folks...Any anti foreigner stuff going on in that neighborhood is very hard to believe...In the surrounding areas, I don't know... There are lots of Americans in the area... Also...I think Pyongtaek is a fairly large region and then Pyongtaek City is a small part of that region...You'll need to consult a map to find out where you'll really be...Songtan by the Osan Air Force Base is actually a little nicer in my oppinion and there are a few decent restaurants. |
