Hi,
I am currently looking for a job in, preferably, Seoul or anywhere in South Korea. I am a native english speaker, Irish, who has just graduated with a bachelors of science degree from Trinity university, Dublin. I have emailed my resume and passport photos to 5 different recruitment agencies who promise to offer you a contract with in a few days of your on-line applicaction.

(Its also worth mentioning that there are 3 of us looking for jobs out there and we are looking/hoping to get jobs close to each other.)

Two weeks later and no reply. What should I do? Should i ring them to speed up the process, I am eager to get out of Ireland ASAP. I dont have any teaching experiance and have no TEFL certificate but all the agencies adverising say this dose'nt matter. If someone could give me an eayer way to gain employment and shed a bit of light on this subject through there own experiances I'd be very greatful

I did it. Your best bet is foreigner bars. Speak to the people, make connections. There are lots of hagwons in Seoul, but unless you know where they are you probably won't see them.

I repeat: go to bars and speak to people. They'll usually know someone or something that is available.

(Being Irish I wouldn't expect the bar-hopping to be a problem, right?)

Buddy, I think he's still in Ireland.

I can only tell you my experience. I didn't use the net, I used recruiters on the ground in my home country. They were Korean, and I was in the classroom teaching two weeks from when I approached them. If there is anyone there recruiting I recommend it.

But heres the story in Ireland. We only have one recruitment agency for Korea over here and they're fairly shit. We went to them the other week and after all the interviews and crap they told us they only have postions availabe for women at the minute, they said Korean schools prefer women as teachers -for the kindergarten- and at present have no offers for male tutors.

They did'nt sound to confident on finding us jobs in the near distant future so im desperetly looking for jobs via the internet, but is it impossible to get jobs over the net and/or would we be better off looking for jobs in Taiwan because there are more jobs available there?

Get on a plane, pick a city and ask at the nearest foreigner bar. You will have a job in a week

Same here. I have learned my lesson the hard way. If you are already in Korea and lose a job, stay until you find another one. I am playing hell trying to get back to Korea. And...the money won't last forever. I don't want to go back to Korea broke. But, I don't want to work in some craphole like Wal-Mart while I am looking for a new job in Seoul. So far, I have tried 3 recruiters who just fell off the face of the Earth. Or they died or something. I have had about 5 phone interviews. When I fax my passport photo or scan my photo, these people never speak to me. I e-mail them to be sure if they got my picture and they can't even send a simple e-mail saying yes I got it or no I did not get it. Pretty pathetic hiring practices if you ask me. And...I have 2 years of teaching experience and I am not fat, ugly, or nonwhite either. Maybe the Korean teachers are scared of an attractive white girl in the office. They seem to favor fatties in the places I have worked before.
