CCTV Cameras Banned in Changing Rooms

http://english.chosun.com/w21data/html/news/200808/200808130023.html

CCTV cameras will be prohibited in public baths, changing rooms at public facilities, and public restrooms, where privacy can be violated. The Ministry of Public Administration and Security on Tuesday issued a preliminary notice of a draft bill intended to prevent abuse of personal information. The bill envisages regulations on the installation of video information processing equipment, such as CCTV and network cameras, including installation by civilians.

Such cameras can be installed only in public facilities or locations specified by law, including parking lots of department stores and apartment buildings, and inside and outside of shops, for the purpose of preventing crimes and fire, ensuring safety in facilities, and controlling traffic.

"So far, the government has regulated civilian installation of CCTV cameras only based on government guidelines, and official said. But this legislation lays the legal foundation for government control over civilians in this regard."

Adjoshis can't handle simple things like open stalls in bathrooms.

The adjoshis' "perv patrol" must really enjoy CCTV in bathrooms.

I take it the concept of privacy (or common sense) is lacking in Korea. Then again you would think no one in their right mind would want to be peeped upon in the changing room, bathroom, or public bath (unless you're into some funny fetish).

How much "crime" is captured on CCTV anyway? Traffic, muggings, otherwise? Once in a while they catch an abusive teacher, but I can't see any good or legit reason for them. By default I'll question authority and the burden of proof is always on the coercive party. Even if these damn things did prevent street crime, they do nothing to prevent white-collar crime which hurts far more people than street crime does. It seems like Korea's traded a lot of its privacy for a false sense of security....much like another nation or two I know about....US?UK?PRC?etc?
