Howdy folks, sorry to bug you during the break and all, but I just got a call from Korean customs in Incheon.

My package has arrived from Spain... Ehaww ..great!

Until he tells me that there is a tax charge of 80,000won. wtf?

It's just some guitar books with dvd's, nothing too exotic. I've ordered plenty of books and stuff before and never heard of anything like this.

I have no clue why the sent it to Incheon, as I live in Gimhae.

The contents are only valued at 150 dollars US, and they want to charge me
another 80 dollars tax? Something smells fishy.

Has anyone heard of something like this? How can I check this out to see if it's legit? I feel like I'm being scammed, but I don't know what to do about it.

Anyway, any ideas welcome.

Thanks

I had ordered things for about six months after coming here, and then they started adding an extra import fee to mine. I think on a 130 USD order there was like 65 or 70 on it. A Korean friend handled it for me, and she said it was the import fee from the govt, so I bit it and paid it. And Voila, I got my LLBEAN order.

If Customs says you have to pay it, I don't think anyone on here can contradict that. Just pay it to the account they gave you and save the receipt as proof of payment.

it's my understanding you only have to pay for items purchased that are new and valued over $150.00.

personal items are exempt - you might have to write a letter that states as such, tho even then I've heard some people are having difficulties recently.

personally I think it's a new scam due to the huge influx of FTs coming in and people trying to skim some of the cream off the top -

your best bet really is to have a K friend call up and get details; take names down and check and double check again the legitimacy of any request for payment.

or just pay it and be done with it.
