I'm trying to decide what would be the best use of my time to improve my podcast. Please feel free to comment on any of the following ideas:
1. Hot job updates, where I list the most interesting jobs from different sites in Korea. I'd give the basics, and information on what site to find the contact information on. I have a demo of this up now (and yeah, I know I said "Seoul" when I meant "Korea").
2. Daily weather and news headlines. Not sure of the legalities of reading the news from other sites. Reading the headlines wouldn't be bad, I suppose. I might get some students to help with this sometimes.
3. Just stay with special stories about once per week.
4. Music (would anyone even bother listening?)
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated! |

1) Hot jobs...no thanks. Highs and lows found in various jobs is worthwhile. Might even be funny.
2) I listen in anticipation for your ads.
3) Weather and news? Nope. I'll look out the window, read a blog, etc.
4) Music. That's what my ipod is for.
5) Don't limit yourself to only teachers/teaching. Expand outside the field every now and again.
6) Special stories once a week. That's the ticket. Familiar, relavant work-related or culture-related topics.
Use Daves posters. We all seem to want to get to know each other better.
Cater to topics that are popping up every so often here (F2-F5; a tenured prof; a tortured prof; go to Incheon and surprise a newbie just off the plane. Interview him/her, then once more a month later; seek out a published author who climbed the ladder here; adding big names like Rod Ellis' caliber would be a draw; do a temple stay and interview a monk; ask a hagwon association leader some questions; meet up with a Chamber of Commerce guy or an embassy worker; do a red light girl or a popular blogger; chat up a returnee student; quiz someone with kids in the Korean school system; find someone who is taking Korean classes or mastering Korean. Foreign-owned restaurants or bars, etc. What about a Korean OMD or dentist to reassure us of quality medicine? A migrant worker; the tall guy with a big nose who's always on TV? Stephanie White, the mom who tragically lost her son a few months ago.
Why not be like that guy on the Discovery Channel who hops out of helicopters into the jungle or desert and give us a blow by blow. Buy that cell phone; go to the bank and ask for a visa. Hang out at the Mud Festival or take a weekend in Jeju. Take advantage of the trendy medical tour and get a physical. |
