Ah yes. One day to go!

I love the Olympics. I even get into soprts I've never heard of every four years.

A bit of controversy.......I saw this picture on the BBC website and thought, that's a bit insensitive.....

Some USA team members arriving at the airport wearing face masks.........That's like arriving at someones home with your hand over your nose expecting a bad smell! Quite rude!

Speaking of which, where is the best place to watch it for free on the internet? Im talking about a site that won't show a billion replays of some Korean winning gold in tkd.

I suppose it is... but then again don't Beijingers wear similar face masks?

Marathon record holder Haile Gabreselassie actually pulled out of these games because of the poor air quality...so i think the Chinese will just have to get used to tackling the problem.

Yes, many Beijingers wear the same face masks here. The pollution here is harmful for your health. And these are athletes, for whom their health means their livelihood and profession.

I wonder if foreign athletes arrived in L.A. for the 1984 Olympics wearing face masks? What with the notorious smog in L.A.

Anyway, I hope this thread is more about the sports than 'issues'.

Woo-hoo. Nothing but Korean coverage for me: Fencing, ping pong, badminton, and archery. I'm super excited! Cool

Better than the alternative, I guess. Watching in Canada and seeing our athletes embarrass themselves and fail to get anywhere near their expectations.

As I remember on the CBC coverage of the 2000 Sydney games, the Canadians almost stroked out when Australia actually was doing fairly well- I think one guy called for some sort of investigation into the Canadian organizers, and all sorts of head-rolling behavior.

I take it nothing really changed though? Fret not, though. just two years to reclaim to your rightful spot among the tops of curling!

Yeah, they were cyclists and showed up wearing masks. I don't blame them one bit. They swear there was no political intention and I tend to believe them. road and mountain cyclist will scoop up more bad air than any other event largely due to racing behind camera vehicles and racing longer than most other events. The track racers might be racing indoors so that might help. http://www.velonews.com/article/81369/cyclists-apologize-over-mask-row

anyone know the best places to watch the opening ceremony in Seoul? (in English?) or on tv - not sure if AFN will - or if any of the cable tv channels will...

I was under the impression that events begin Saturday. Certainly, it would be foolish to have the opening ceremonies and then one week of no events.

Please define athletics.

Cultural confusion of terms. If i meant tomorrow, i would've said This Friday. however, next Friday means a week tomorrow.
I think North Americans say the opposite: "Next" friday means "this Friday coming" to them.

Are you caught in some sort of time loop? Are you saying the opening ceremonies begin tomorrow and the events start a week after them? Are you saying you're drunk? Retarded, perhaps?

I need clarification.
