I know it has been done to death, but has anyone heard about any possible changes to this new visa process? Is easier to get a visa if you have a masters? First you have get the background check form sent to you, go to a police station get finger printed, mail in the form and finger prints with a check. Then you wait a few weeks and send what you got to the state capital and have them give it an Apostille verification, with another check. Then send all that crap to Korea with all the other documents you have horded, then wait for the immigration approval number, then go to a consulate for an interview. This process just seems a bit.... extraneous? I realize that every country has its own visa process but this just seems to be taking it a bit far, especially since this has to be done every year. If I just spent the last year in Korea why the hell do I need another background check, I have been in your country YOU would know if I did anything. Any one else feeling me on this one or am I being unreasonable?

IF you think it is bad here, try to get a work visa for the US. The USCIS is absolutely ANAL.

The process to get to the states will cost you about $1000 + a consular interview + more documentation than you can shake a stick at AND a wait of about a year.

Hmmm looks like they are taking lessons from their friends at the USCIS.

That's why some people, including myself, are looking at the possibility of teaching elsewhere in the future. Here it is 2008, and Korea is still in the dark ages when it comes to keeping records, as in they don't keep records. My friend teaches in the state of Florida and said she has to get a CBC every 5 years. But in good ole Korea, it will be an every year pain. Wonderful!

From everything I have researched and read, you will only need to submit the Background check once. It is hard to say whether this will actually be the case though. Immigration has stated that it is only necessary to submit once.

The background check as a requirement is new for the visa, well, except for the public school system. Hopefully now that they have implemented across the board, the will keep records of who has submitted a check and who has not.

Mike,

It would be the same for those who have bachelors as those who have masters degrees. The only exception is those who have F-series visas.
