Well, it didn't get violent but you know Koreans are always at the forefront of technical innovation and "so what did they do" I hear you cry. They put a big sign up next to Mc. Donald's against US beef. Classic.

they are protesting here too, the funny thing is there was two quite small ones, maybe 50 ppl at one and 100 at the other, and they were about 300 metres apart from each other, they should have just joined up and made a single protest.
why are they even protesting???just don't buy the stuff if they don't want it |

| I keep reminding people who bring in up that the US military has been here for a LOOOOOONNNNNGGGGG time, and THEY'VE been importing it on base. How many people here have access to a base and bring home US beef? |

| Look if one Korean - ONE Korean - eats US beef, the whole country will drop dead. It'll be eerie, like 'I am Legend', only with English Teachers and GIs. |

i was caught in that mess tonite as my school is near gwanghwamun, at 5:30 there had to be 5000 cops around the US Embassy alone, cops were stacked up all the way to sajik park.
when i came home at 7:30 the cops had all the streets that could remotely lead to chong wa dae blocked off. couldnt see what was going on at chongehyeon but ciity hall plaza was packed.
this has to be the stupidest protest i've seen here in all my years here. you have better odds getting struck by lightning 3 times in your life than getting mad cow, but do they believe it? heck no
i hope the us either slaps on the sanctions or threaten to pull the troops to shut these morons up |

The cops had the streets blocked off. I thought protesters were blocking the streets. But the streets were empty, just blocked by cops, police buses and the thick ignorance of it all. |

Yet more evidence of Korea sparkling, and trying to stave off that image of being xenophobic.
Pathetic, economically motivated and politically orchestrated display of bravado. Yet another reason I can't wait to get out. |

| Two students with signs were walking through the subway on the brown line today, and just as we were approaching Itaewon, they were about to begin their speech. Just then, and guy in a suit with some sort of bank or political-looking symbol stuck on his lapel stood up and told them not to give their talk. I have no idea why he said that, but I wondered if it had to do anything with me being there? |

pffft. I'll bet you wonder that about everything.
"The other day, I was driving along and the light turned from green to red. I don't know why, but could it have been because they didn't want the foreign guy passing them? Was it because I was foreign? Xenophobia, anyone? I don't think it was a conincidence because the light changed *right* when I got there! And I was the only non-Korean around! Maybe they didn't want me find out about the middle school student sex ring that was going on right down the road!" |

Now if only to translate that into Korean and write it up on my class board this morning. |
