If I recall the phrase "the customer is always right" was coined by the guy who invented the concept of the department store. Without googling it was something like Shelfridge or something. There's still a dept. store chain named after him in the UK, the one he founded. Anyway, again if I recall, his motto wasn't meant to mean the customer in front of you with the big screen tv he's trying to return after superbowl weekend with beer rings on top and claiming he never took it out of the box is right. The customer was meant to refer to the collective desires of the customers. Try to stock shelves based on what they want, not what you think you like selling. |
