What a farce this whole system is. This and many other little things are the reasons my wife wants to take our daughter to America to be educated. She even admits that the system here sucks. I'm not going to argue.

How depressing.

They like to talk about how fair that one test is, how it levels the playing field, but it strikes me as incredibly unfair to not consider anything else that might allow a person to put their best face forward.

In the US at least, a bad SAT score can be balanced out with decent grades, or personal experience. These kids don't really have a chance to explain themselves if they happen to bomb on the test.

Apparently some don't even have to write the test. I know of 2 girls that got accepted early and therefor don't have to take the National Exam. I guess as time goes on, they are making this less stressful.

Do you have any idea what they had to do to get early admission?

Not sure about the fine details, but one girl applied to a university in Japan. Got accepted in August, so she says all it is just show up to school for the rest of the year. Although she was stressing about the application and English and Japanese interview she needed to do way back in July.

The other girl got accepted to some small Korean university majoring in math. Can't remember the name, same deal with her, says university don't care about any remaining grades and it's just show up to school and coast.

When I applied to university, in Canada, they still cared about my final grades four months after I applied early.
