I own a Daelim 125cc Forte. I swear the thing has to have an air filter (heck, I see a box under the seat where I think one would be), but the ajosshi at the repair shop says "no".

I think he just doesn't understand me???

I haven't changed it since i got the bike, but I want to change it because I'm sure it's long overdue. Every 4-stroke engine I've ever known has had an air filter.

I would try a different shop. I think the word for filter is pilter. Is there anyway you can open the compartment and look? He may be saying no because he does not have that size, not because there is not a filter.

If you are riding around on a scooter/motorcycle, you should at least know how to do the basic of basic maintenance. Remove the air filter and hand carry it to the shop. Rule of thumb: When you remove the filter, hold it up to the sunlight/flashlight/lamp and you should be able to see through it somewhat. If so, it's good. If it's real dirty, change it.

I'm laughing because I worked in a Kawasaki/Suzuki dealership for 2 years on weekends.

Don't have a screwdriver that is big enough, or I'd do that myself. I'll just drop by another shop next time and point to what I think is the airbox. As dirty as the air is here, I shudder to think how bad the filter is.

The word is "air cleaner". I had to change the air filter on my last bike.

Well, I tried another service place, and they opened the box for me. It wasn't much of a filter, compared to what we have in the USA, but he looked at it, thunked it a bit with his hand, and it was obvious it wasn't too dirty. He said that they usually just spray-clean them out with an air-hose. It was more like a thin sponge filter, really. I guess someone must have cleaned it when I had it in for service once. As dirty as the air is here in Seoul, I was surprised. Then again, they must let the ultra-fine powder dirt just pass on through the engine -- it didn't look like the sponge would stop all of that. The carb looked clean though.
