Well, i've posted 3 times asking for a squat rack in Cheong-Ju. No responses ever. I've asked every student who works out and I have several who are body builders (no squat racks).

Wtf how can you not squat? Check out the olympics weightlifting.

SoI was cleaning and front squatting but I can only clean about 60 kilos or whatever so it was stalling for me.

Anyhoo I tried the Steinborn lift two months ago. Okay, I very nearly broke my neck (i'm a little guy). I love the clean, I love the front squat. But Im not an olympic superhero. And I kinda firgured out the steinborn and i love it.

So if you need to squat and there is no rack.

this.

Looks dangerous.

I hope I can find a squat rack when I arrive. I'm doing the stronglifts.com 5X5 beginner workout.

Good luck finding a freaking squat rack. I alternate a clean which I can't get to the heavy enough weight so i squat 12 or 13 reps per 5 o 6 times.

With the steinborn lift i can get more weight to my shoulders, but it's in the learning process it do about 50 kgs atm (I weight 60 kg), so it's tricky. But cleaning - it is lilkely to FAIL. and when you fail a clean everyone knows the bar SLAMS to the ground.

Stronglifts is a good work out, but they want you avoiding *all* machines, so you're int the same boat as me .

You're gonna be pulling from the floor. )

To be honest. If you have no squat rack you have issues. Will you clean? Will you steinborn (it's good but god a pain in the ass to learn), will you deadlift/deep deadlit?

I like that expression: you're gonna be pulling from the floor.

I'm going to deadlift, and looks like I'll have to learn the Steinberg for squats. I know it says not to use smith machines, but it might be a better alternative to the stein-breakyourback-berg. Maybe it is safe. I've never tried it. I weigh 137lbs, so the weights might take me with them!

How could they not have simple squat racks?

You should check out one legged pistols (sometimes called one legged squats) with dumbbells in your hands. They don't need much weight.

I'm in Seoul and struggle to find a squat rack too.

The Steinberg looks do-able, but how do you get it down again?

My problem is not cleaning the weight up, it is getting it down safely from behind my neck after I've just done a set of heavy squats. I find myself half rolling it over the back of my head which feels dangerous and lately has been putting me of squatting altogether.

I am in search of a gym witha squat rack as well. They are hard to find. I have resigned myself to using the smith machine, but it is just not the same.

If anyone knows a gym in gangdong gu with a squat rack, please let me know.

That's an impressive way of getting a weight up.

I have a choice of two gyms very close to my school.

One gym is owned by tow bodybuilders. It has a squat rack, but no floor space. So deads, SLDLs, cleans, olys, etc are out of the question.

The other has no squat, but it does have plenty of floor space for the above mentioned lifts, and it has a decent incline leg press. Also, it has a sauna with a very cold pool which is a blessing in this weather.

At the moment I'm using the latter.

Squats are AWESOME, but you can make progress without them. Work on your cleans. You'll build up to a wieght sufficient for front squatting, and you'll develop some thick back and shoulders in the meantime.

You should go to this gym, since you can certainly deadlift, SLDL, and clean within the squat rack. If you're cleaning correctly, it should not be traveling away from your body--it should follow a straight path upward which is the shortest distance.

^^^

The squat rack doesn't have adjustable safety pins, so I cannot clean, DL, or SLDL in it. If I did, they'd be partials.
