Does anybody know about this? I was told earlier today that this is a cheap way to call internationally, without the hassle of getting a phonecard... is this true?

The only thing I've been able to turn up on the internet was at www.dacom.net which detailed about some kind of ad...

Quote:
Theme: 00300 owl
International phone call using at night.
Night international phone call 00300.

If anybody's feeling generous enough to translate from the ad then it'd be much appreciated... I'll enclose the link below

I'm with LG telecom, and when I want to call home (to Canada) I dial 00388 - and apparently it costs me the same to call to Canada with that number, as it does for me to make phone calls within Korea. Not too bad really. I think you have to be with LG and ask for this setup though.

On the advertisement they state: "Rates vary from 198 won per minute to Japan, 119 won per minute to the states" and from experience I have found that they charge ~250 won per minute to Canada.

It is MORE convenient than a phone card but a little more expensive.

US - 119 won per minute = w7140 per hour.
Japan- 198 won per minute = w11880 per hour
Canada- 250 won per minute = w15,000 per hour.

I use 00300.. the cheapest to the UK that I know of. Not exactly sure how much, but a 45 min call costs less than 10,000 won.

It's only cheap for landline, btw... as soon as you are calling from a mobile phone, you are talking about double the price.

My 00388 with LG is through my mobile phone. I don't have a landline.

I have found LS's trunk to have similar rates from my LG handphone.

Canada - 220 won per minute
USA - 140 won per minute
Philippines - 650 won per minute

I have also had fair/similar rates (on my handphone) from Daycom's 002. This one also allows you to send SMS messages.

OK.. I just searched Daecom's rates...

002 charges 4.8 (normal) per second, which means 288 won per minute; and 4.3 won per second = 258 won/min.

00300 charges 155 won per minute normal rate and 119 discounted rate on a landline; 162 normal and 119 discounted on a mobile line.

Normal hours are 9am to 7pm, discounted hours are 7pm to 9am... (well, yeah obviously)... and weekend, Friday after 7pm until 9am Monday.

For the UK it is 415 normal and 299 discounted.

HTH.

What about using VoIP? I use Skype to talk with my family and friends back in the States. It's free and the quality's fine as long as all parties have decent broadband.

Skype costs about 22 won/minute to the U.S. or Canada if you are calling a landline. Cheapest way to call by far. (And as has been mentioned, PC to PC calls are free.)

http://www.cardstation.net/

is the cheapest way to call the States (mobile to mobile 75 won/min, landline to landline, 35 won per minute). You can transfer money to them from your bank account and you're good to go! UK: cheapest mobile to mobile is 190 won/min, and landline to landline 48 won/min.

I've been using them for a long time and they're super helpful if you have problems!

FYI: You don't get an actual "card"...just a toll-free number and PIN.
