A Korean friend of mine is thinking about moving to Vancouver to study English.
Can anyone here recommend a good language school and homestay in a near Vancouver?
Finally, if a Korean came to Canada (6 month tourist visa), could they also study at a school? Or would they then have to get a student visa? |

I believe that to study at a public school they'd need a student visa.
Something more casual - no. |

Vancouver English Centre (VEC)
Korean: http://www.vec.ca/korean/1/
and
English: http://www.vec.ca/
It was a truly A-1 when I taught there (pre 2001).
And they have a good homestay dep't.

I taught at Robson College in Vancouver, and it was almost exclusively Korean students, young adults fresh from Seoul. My Korean experience was why I got hired in the first place. Contacting them would certainly lead to homestay leads, among other things. There is such a large young Korean community in Vancouver, your friend should have no trouble. |

VEC is probably one of the better ones in that they actually restrict the number of Koreans as a % of the total student population. About 20-30%? And they have about 400 students altogether I think.
Believe me there are some schools here (run by Koreans) that make it seem like you are still in Korea minus the muggy weather and expensive smokes.
My friend's wife has worked both sides (agency and school marketer) and so has dealt with most of the schools and all of the agents in Vancouver so if your friend needs any direct impartial help PM me and I will forward you her contact info. |
