I am going home soon and wanted sign up for an online account to transfer my money into before I got there. I want something separate from what I already have at home. Any suggestions? Do you know of any restrictions? Thanks a lot. |

it might be helpful to those who will respond if they knew where "home" is for you - as in what country?? |

I was back in the U.S. last year and wanted to change banks - when I went to Citibank and inquired about setting up an account there - I explained I knew there was a Citibank in Seoul and thought perhaps it would save me on wiring charges if I had an account in the US already set up.
Well immediately the bank officer went off about how if I knew I was going overseas then I'd wouldn't be elgible for an account - for whatever reason - residency perhaps -
but I doubt it - sounded like a crock to me
the thing is, the bank I'm using now I opened just before going overseas in 2003 and sat there w/the bank manager and discussed moving to Korea - they knew all along I was leaving the U.S. - that's why I chose their bank for their online services.
so it's going to depend on the bank, I think. perhaps you can ask a close family member to open an account for you? I think if it's a joint account they can send you the signature cards and you can return them.
good luck. |
