I'm looking at spending about 4 days in Singapore this fall as I pass through, and noticed how expensive hotels are (not by western standards, more so compared to the rest of souther Asia.) My friend and I are looking to stay somewhere central to the buzz, in a budget type of hotel/motel (NOT a hostel). Does anyone have any recommendations? (in my line of thinking, budget = - less than $80/night). Merci. |

Prices in Singapore have gone up considerably in the past few years with many fairly bland hotels running close to $100 US a night.
There are a few small guest house type hotels around the Chinatown MRT subway station and a few away from the centre in Geylang that have reasonable prices.
But I would suggest catch the bus across the causeway to Johor Bahru (Malaysia) and stay there if possible. Which is under 1 hour from the centre of Singapore and there are regular buses. For $50 US per night you could get a standard 3* hotel room for about 40% cheaper than Singapore proper. |

thank you for your input. to be slightly more specific, we're looking for a budget hotel which is accessible, but boasts its own ensuite bathroom. my main reason for not staying in a hostel is due to sharing bathrooms - ick! anyhow, i've been researching a lot online lately, and it seems the cheapest option with an ensuite bathroom is the fragrance hotel chain. if anyone has any other recommendations for budget hotels w/ ensuite bathroom in singapore, i'd love to hear from you! |

Fragrance Hotel and another chain 'Hotel 81', which if not in the red light areas ( Geylang / Aljuneid etc) are commonly used for the same purposes as love motels here in korea.
Their will be noise, prostitutes and their clients in and around the hotels. Not neccessarily bad, but go there with your eyes open.
New 7 Storey Hotel is ok - it won't be there for much longer as it will disappear to make way for a new mrt station next year.
