My 250gb Samsung external HD seems to have just quit working on me. It's only had a service record of about a year. And, it just had a 6 week vacation. Any advice on recovering the data?

Now the thing isn't even being detected by my PC. It must be a USB issue with the device.

a wee bit later..................................................

freaky deaky.

It looks like it was a conflict between another USB device. I just bought a webcam/mic yesterday. I unplugged that and the drive works fine. Oddness.
