So..
I've made the decision to have a go at Korea! Go me, right?
Having done plenty, well, a bit of research on the various places in South Korea to ply my new trade as an English teacher, I have decided in my infinite wisdom that Pusan might well be the place for me.
Not as big as Seoul, but still a big city. I'm a city boy, so I reckon that might be the way to go.
Anyone care to give me a clue what it's actually like there? People? Nightlife? Restaurants? Live music? Football ("soccer" for you bonkers North American types who appear to think that "Football" is actually rugby with padding, helmets, cheerleaders, and breaks every five bloody minutes)?
Is there a US naval/airforce base in Pusan? If so, how likely am I to be faced, on a day-to-day basis, with swarms of Americans?
Now don't get me wrong. I like Americans, I really do. But I'm not sure I could eat a whole one.
Just kidding, of course. I just wouldn't want to be surrounded by them. "soccer" this, and "color" that. Madness.
Anyway.
Thoughts on Pusan, anyone? |

"Soccer" this......LMAO! Since when has soccer been one of our popular sports you twit!?
If you have a problem with us Yank's than stay clear of Busan, Seoul, Daegu, Gwangju, Daejeon and any other industrialized major city. We are all over this country. I suggest you pull your head out of your arse and grow up. |

I'm sure you could search for Busan. I've only seen a thread like this 8 million times.
Busan is the second largest city in Korea but it doesn't have an American military presence like Seoul does. There is plenty of nightlife there. There are many different kinds of restaurant but not as much as Seoul with Itaewon and all but you can get your western fix.
Oh, and I am sure you can play football with those North American types. |

Yeah mate you'll like Busan, just ignore the usual shouty d@ck americans who you will run into, they're just like some of the ones on these boards, all mouth and trousers, the usual, "look at me" mentality, but you can always hear them coming so can navigate around them.
Busan is a good call for your first venture and as it's coastal it has a freshness about it. It's got most of the things you'll want, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. |

Try and work near haeundae beach area if you can. its very modern, pretty international (for korea) has all the trashy western chains and has a nice beach. I really like Busan and wish i went there instead. it's very big, so check where you will be living on the subway map as its a heck of a long haul from one end to the other; it's a very big city and a much of it is just the usual korea. the pnu area has a bit of life, but man, the beach areas gwangalli and haeundae are awesome. loads of western bars/restaurants etc. |

I've only been to Busan a few times but it was nice. It's kind of spread out, though, and the subway is pretty small. I didn't see overwhelming amounts of foreigners about, unlike in Seoul, where you can't go out at night without running into a few asshole fellow Americans. It also didn't seem as into the 'bali bali!" culture as Seoul. My friend and I were staying at Haeundae, by the way. |
