My Wife and I will be honeymooning over the Christmas Break.
We are looking to go to one of the three desinations abov ( unless you can reccomend another place.
Here is what we are looking for, if you know any places that fit all or most of the criteria FROM PERSONAL experience, please let us know, links to pictures would be great.
1) A quiet beach where we can settle down and relax
2) Nice people wanting to help you
3) Cheap, but decent accomodations
4) Poeple giving the 10 dollar massages for an hour
5) NOT a huge popular place where we will share everything with 1000 other people and fight for every inch.
6) Something within a reasonable distance of Sights and things to see.
7) decent food at a decent price ( 5000 a plate kind of thing)
We had this real nice beach in the PHillipine we were going to hit again, but thy seem to have raised the prices.
Can anyone suggest something? |

Of course Thailand has many world class beaches; but it seems you enjoy something "alternative". Sihanoukville, Cambodia fits your requirements for price and not crowded beaches (several to choose from). You could put it together with an Angor Wat tour.
Like implied by the previous poster, spend more money and you could enjoy romantic Koh Lanta in South Thailand. It is a bit hard to really recommend Sihanoukville as a honeymoon destination; but if you both are a bit adventurous, you could consider it. |

| I tend to relax on Koh Phangan in southern Thailand. Thong Nai Pan is a nice beach. Sihanooksville is alright, but it is not romantic at all. Depending on how much time you have, you could go from Bangkok to Koh Chang. Then cross at the Hat Lek/Koh Kong border. Hit Snooky for a few days. Head up to Phnom Penh and then onward to Siem Reap before coming back for your flight out of Bangkok. |

I agree with losing_touch. Koh Phan Ngan would be much better for honeymoon. I was at a nice quiet beach there with a health resort (search detox phan ngan) There seem to be several beaches around the island only accessable by boat. Rooms ranging all prices with "you get what you pay for" as the rule.
The Cambodia loop as described is a fantastic trip. Just more adventurous and less romantic. |

You are probably describing Haad Thien and The Sanctuary.

Hmmmm, Ko Phangang could be allright. I spent a year teaching in Southern Thailand. If you're willing to head down that ways, to Hat Yai, you can catch a GREAT spot all the way down on the Andaman, almost into Malaysia. There's a tiny island an hour and a half from shore, called Ko Lipe. It's perfect for a honeymoon getaway, you won't want to leave. The food can range from cheap (at your bungalow restaurant) or more expensive (going out). But c'mon, it's Thailand.....it's relatively very cheap.
Check it out, I went twice. Snorkeled with a shark, hiked, lounged, enjoyed having no roads....it was very cool.
If that's too far down, places around Krabi can be nice, like Ko Lanta. |

Allow me to rephrase, It is our SECOND honeymoon.
We were married in Vegas in March, honeymooned in the DR in April.
Now we have to have a KOrean ceremony for the wifes side of the family.
We have already spent a lot f money for the first wedding and honeymoon. And although we wont pay for the wedding, we WILL for the honeymoon, and we are saving for a house.
So with that in mind, can anyone reccomend decent cheaper places.
in 2004, I happenned to go to white beach phillipines, get an 80 dollar room for 30 for 10 days, got 10 dollar massages every day, 4 dollar a plate meals, etc.
for 12 days we sent about 800 bucks, me and my wife, for EVERYTHING, thats pretty reasonable.
The Santuary looks ok, can anyone tel me more about the time there. Is it as relaxing as it claims? how are the rooms? |

Personally, I wouldn't stay there as the beach is a bit isolated. There is more to do in Thong Nai Pan. I would also look at Haad Salad. Cookies Salad is a cool new bungalow outfit up there. The owner, Aom, is quite nice.

There are some nice restaurants around. The beach has nice sand. You can get a massage for less than $10 on the beach itself. |

I'm partial to the Turtle, myself. Turtle as in Koh Tao, a little island in the gulf just above Koh Samui. I spent 21 days on the Turtle back in January and February. It was great, save for the insane motorcycle riders clipping by at 30 mph on the sidewalks. Just be sure to have travel insurance and give those idiots a wide berth as they barrel along on the sidewalks like there's no tomorrow.
One other thing about the Turtle: there is very little police presence. I'm talking 20,000 people or more and maybe 10 cops. Crime is very rare, though. The cops' main duties involve cleaning up the messes created when fast motorcycles tangle with slow pedestrians. |

i stayed at the Sanctuary about 3 years ago for 5 nights. The rooms at the sanctuary were about $30 a night (some little more, some little less). There were $10 rooms in other establishments behind (off the beach). I did a 5 day fast there, with yoga and spa treatment. Honestly, about the most expensive thing I ever did in Thailand. You could skip the fasting, and spa ($10 massage available another place down the beach). The yoga was pretty cool.
Anyway, I think losing_touch seems to have a lot more experience and I would guess that his beach recommendations are even better. I'll probably try his recommendations next time I go. |

Going down Yala way may be a little risky. There was a muslim uprising going on in that area while Thaksin was PM. Like 2,000+ people died in just over 3 years. Don't know the status of that today. The press is selective about what we hear in the news. An Israeli gets blown up at the Wailing Wall and we hear about it for a month. A thousand Thais get blown up in the south of Thailand, and nobody hears about it.
Do a yahoo search..."muslim uprising Thailand". |
