I had a telephone interview with the recruiter who screens for CDI, and today I received an email letting me know that

I'm not really disappointed, because he's right that all you have to do to find work is move on to the next place until you get in (basically stated).
Normally, however, the background of teaching here in the states and former teaching in Korea is good enough for most institutes and publics, but this guy interviewed like he was screening MBAs for IBM or some such corporation. It certainly sounds like they consider that I was hoping and praying to please, please get a position with them.
I figured other factors must have come into play, like I'm not ready to hop on a plane this very minute, or I have a wife and daughter, or even that I'm not in Korea right at this moment. Who knows?
But it's very rare to get a 'we don't want you', and for a native English speaker, there aren't any 'opportunities that are better suited to your skills' than just plain teaching English. |

| Without knowing the details, it is of course hard to know for sure, but I think it possibly may have something to do with housing. I have seen many apartments here now of my friends and we all basically live in very tiny accomodations. They may very well have thought that it is too much trouble for them to go out and find something a bit larger to accomodate a family if they presently don't have anything on hand, and thought it is easier just to find a single teacher. Whichever though, you seem to have the right attitude - just move forward and don't give it too much thought. |

It sounds like you've landed on your feet since then...but from my point of view...you were denied because of your family needing to travel with you.
A school in a more desperate situation would/will/has give(n) you more consideration than a huge chain like CDI. Plus, CDI would rather hire a fresh young "newbie" than someone with experience. They can't mold you and brainwash you like they can others.
In my opinion...the amount you'd work...and the amount of time you'd be apart from your family...you're better off. |
