Shameful.... and the wife is Korean, so she's having a blast.
We gotta stop promoting losers. See the opening ceremonies? We had about 350 people. 340 of whom will finish in 10th place. Losers. I'm all for supporting athletes with our tax dollars, but that many for nothing in return?
I guess that's what you get when your country promotes mediocrity at all levels. No more "MVPs" in minor hockey, cuz it'll hurt the other kids' feelings; no more "advanced" education, cuz the idiots will have their feelings hurt; no more praise for winners, let's make sure we make the losers feel important too. Pitiful. |

Most Canadian Olympians live below the poverty level. (Maybe not most, but a lot of them do) |

And yet the Canadian government does support athletics financially. How can this be? Canadians need to get their tax dollars back. |

eh, could be worse. I remember how upset the Candian announcers on the CBC got in 2000 when Australia was cleaning house at their games, and how they wanted all these investigations about the team, and why they sucked so much.
My guess it's probably good idea to avoid Chinatowns across the great White North for a few weeks. |

| i'm not surprised canada is sucking it up at the summer olympics. Since Vancouver got the winter olympics most of the money for olympic training has gone to winter sports. The government hopes that they can win big on home soil for 2010. |

We beat you at Hockey, field hockey that is. 6-1. I'd hate to see it the other way around on the ice though!

But seriously, Australia who usually manages a top-10 finish subsidises the living crap out of our elite athletes. I think this is nothing more than a sop to national pride and a waste of money that would be better off in taxpayers' pockets or spent on more pressing matters. However, it would be political suicide for someone to suggest this. |

The govt barely supports our athletes. The lack of medals so far isnt a surprise; it is expected.
The only full time athletes are the ones with private sponsorships, which we dont really have a plethora of.
We are a second rate country when it comes to athletics, we will always find a way to pull ourselves down. The whole Team Canada Basketball debacle is a good example of this. |

| Basketball is horribly run because they decided to hire Leo Rautins...who had no experience. They are poorly funded and barely has any corporate sponsors. They should copy Hockey Canada and have a base in Toronto or Vancouver that has a resident and etc. |

| I do not know how much funding they get but it is extremely inadequate. I feel embarrassed about the whole thing. I think they should give as much support as say...South Korea does for their athletes. BTW how many athletes did SK send to the Olympics? |

Most sports get very little or nothing at all. The biggest piece of pie goes to the sports that are medal hopefuls, screw the rest. That's why most Canadian Olympians live below the poverty line. Most have zero support from Eagleson (or whoever took his job). |
