I got a job offer for a school in korea. I Sent off all my documents about 13 days ago. When reading a korean consulate site, it said i needed an interview for an E-2 visa, which my recruiter didnt inform me of. Since it was a weekend i couldn't call the consulate, so i emailed a questions about the procedure. Finally this evening i was able to talk to someone about the visa process and they said yes i need an interview but when i checked my email, they responded by saying that didn't need an interveiw because i was with EPIK but im with GEPIK. So now i am very confused.
Does anyone know if you need an consulate/embassy interview if you are offered a job with GEPIK. And if so, what do you need to bring and how long does is take? I hate bureaucracy.
Thanks |

I'm no expert on EPIK/GEPIK, but if this is your first E-2 visa, then Korean Immigration, not the public schools, require the interview at the consulate closest to you in your home country.
Korea is a pretty disorganized place though, and there are beginning to be some exceptions to this.
It's hard on someone who is new, but it's almost a certainty that whatever information you get from your recruiter will be inaccurate if being inaccurate helps them to earn their fee. |

Ohh i forgot to say i emailed the consulate about the procedure and they gave the answer of no i dont need an interview. That is why im confused, im getting different answer from the consulate. when i called they said yes and gave me an appointment to come for an interview and i would rather be on the side of caution but i might call again and see if i can get a more clear answer about what is needed and how long it takes. |

I got the same thing. The embassy people often don't have a clue. If you have a letter of appointment from GEPIK, as opposed to just a visa issuance number, then you shouldn't need to have a consulate interview. Just assume you don't and send in your documents and they'll probably grant the visa. |

Thanks alot, I found that bit of information very helpful why they don't have that on there website i don't know. i haven't gotten a letter of appointment or a visa issuance number yet but i think i will be getting a visa issuance number so i will be needing the interview *sigh*.
Do you know long it will take to get the visa stamped, e.i. will they do it the same day or will i have to wait a couple of days. |
