So, I got my visa package a little late but I found out the name of my school. I'm heading down to immigration to take care of my new visa on Monday. I googled my new school for their number and after several, several calls communication is finally established.

My current contract ends 8/25 but I dont have to be at school until 9/1. I'm not going to the orientation (I got the ok from SMOE supervisor). I wanted to see my apartment first and start moving some of my belongings there. Is that so crazy?

First, they were really accommodating and arranged something for Monday after my trip to immigration. Then 2 hours later I get a phone call saying everything's off because of the principal. The P says they haven't received any official documents stating that I'm the new NT for their school yet so they can't show me anything. I say I have the paper along with my visa package. They say not good enough..they need it from SMOE.

Korean logic...what's the difference btw my document and SMOE? It's the same piece of paperrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...I love Korea.

If I emailed my recruiter and asked them what school I'll be placed at, would they be able to give me a name? Or would they just tell me to wait 'til I'm at the orientation?

Also, what day do we (SMOE teachers) start teaching?

Topic starter, sorry I wasn't here to answer your question :P But I thought you (or others') might be able to answer mine... while still bumping your thread. :)

If you are hired from overseas, your recruiter will not know where you'll be placed. I don't think SMOE will either. They do their placement during the orientation (or a few days before who knows)....but everyone will find out at orientation. Only people hired within Korea will know since the process for obtaining a visa from within Korea is different.

KYC, which recruiter did you work with?
I was hired in Korea, not overseas, but my recruiter wasn't able to find out.

Yuria,

are you getting your visa done from within Korea or are you back in your home country? I used Korea Connections and to be honest they were great at first. However, I had some bumps along the way and they weren't the most helpful. They didn't provide correct information or very ambiguous answers. I went to SMOE myself and straightened out the problems.

If you're taking care of your visa from within Korea, you should have received some sort of document which tells you what school you're placed at. You need this document to submit to immigration. I can't recall the name of the document, but it should be in the package SMOE puts together for you. All I had to do was pick it up.

I'm actually on an F-4, so I don't need to get a visa, which is probably why they are putting off telling me -.-;;
