I have to admit....you guys who foresee a serious teacher shortage here may be right. The new visa rules, coupled with the won taking a dive...hmmm. The rules aren't too bad, save for that damn flight home when you change jobs. The won taking a dump isn't too bad for those who want to stay here long-term, as long as it stays reasonable. But both knives cutting together...
I wouldn't yell "Yankee go home!" too loudly right now, SK. You may get what you wish. And knowing you, you won't plan enough to notice until the first Sunday of next March at around 9 p.m. |

I didn't have to do this. The rules aren't too bad period.
The falling won on the other hand... so happy I lived like a monk for the first six months and paid off all my debts when I had the chance! |

How can we change jobs without going home now? |

Changing jobs is a simple visa run - same as before (Unless you have a black mark in your immigration file).
The home trip and consular interview is for newbies (first E2) or those who have an immigration violation in their file.

Good to know this info. I have two colleagues with no immi records who had to return home for simple slips of paper. I guess they weren't in the know. |

Guess it's OK to return home at your employers expense. We all need to go home and see family and old friends. One big problem with the friends part, they are mostly either incarcerated or dead. It's a tragedy how things are going at home for so many. Well, I won't go any further into detail, just take a vacation home to get a taste of your home country while seeking your documents and visa. |

Looks like there is double standards in terms of visas. I was just told that I don't need a CRC or transcripts to get my new visa. I have also talked to other teachers who didn't need all the stuff. So whats going on? |

If you can get an E2 without CRC, transcripts and other docs, then something is really amiss. |

If there is a shortage, I'm not seeing it. SMOE just hired like 400+ teachers last month. Largest hiring wave ever. They even turned away a lot of teachers, and have a long list of backups incase people run. |

Who told you this baloney, Double D?
Let's make sure we're on the same page, as maybe we're not. I'm talking about getting a new E-2 for a new job. |

Which pretty much backs up the OPs point in the first place, I'd say. |

Veterans are not the key so much, because so many hagwons depend on new graduates from North America, the U.K. etc.... If the rules get complicated, they won't want to come if the currency is not that great unless they are curious about coming to Korea. And many veterans are kind of getting fed up with the Korean Government and the amount of corruption the in government and hagwons. I wouldn't really recommend someone to come to Korea unless they have a master's and want to work in a university or if someone wants to work in a public school. |

Why? Do you forget how to talk without them? |

Are you talking about a renewal?
You've never needed transcripts to renew (i.e., extend) your visa. Likewise, if you've already provided a CRC (either to Immi or to EPIK/GEPIK/SMOE), you won't need one at renewal time.
If you're talking about an actual newly-issued visa, then I suggest you double-check your information. |

Using real economic data (not the government lies) the US has been in a recession since last year. Now, we are experiencing a financial meltdown caused by the collapse of the Federal Reserve money supply bubble.
This means that in few months there could be a huge number of unemployed workers more than happy to work at even lower pay levels than today, even if the exchange rate is poor.
Unfortunately, it also means that the Korean economy will also go into a recession or depression. This will sharply curtail the spending for English teachers, especially in the Government schools and private schools.
Next year we could see a lot more available teachers with far fewer available jobs. |
