I am quitting my job because of an incident involving the school secretary and my boss. The guy is dirt and should be in jail. He certainly shouldn't be allowed to work with children and I refuse to help him make money. I have had the same E-2 visa for over two years. I extended with the same school after my first year, and then extended again and changed workplace for the current year. I have been at this hagwon for almost two months and am quitting without notice, but the owner supposedly will give me a letter of release and let me transfer schools if possible.
What are my options for getting another job? Can I transfer or do I need a new visa? Can I go to another hagwon or will I have to go to a public school? Can I do a visa run to Japan or do I have to go back to the US? Will I need another Background check to get the new job?
I have looked through the forums for hours, but can't find anything for my specific situation. I'm going to call immigration tomorrow so hopefully they will be able to give me a straight answer. I would appreciate any help I can get. Thanks! |

Possibly the funniest single sentence that has ever been written on this site.
I admire you for taking such a strong moral stand, and I wish more people would do the same. Good luck with everything.
Buuuuuuuuuuut...
I'd love to hear some details of this story. We get so many stories of greedy hagwon bosses, it would be nice to balance those out with a story of a pervy hagwon boss. |

You should visit an immigration office. The Immigration employees who do speak English don't usually speak it very well-just well enough to do their jobs. You probably have a long story to tell them and it'll be better if you speak to someone, in person. When you do speak to that person: be calm, smile, take your time, sound reasonable, and ask simple questions.
Also, remember this- each individual Immigration office seems to have their own rules about extensions. Some employees say one thing while employees at another office might say something else. Expect this to happen. That's why you may not get a complete answer until you find a new job and return to the Immigration office with your new boss. |

IF you call the Seoul immigration office, it's possible you will get a straight answer. Double check this with the consulate back in your home region. If the two jibe, then that's the gospel truth. Anything less means a third or fourth opinion. I've given up dealing with Masan and Busan. When I have a question, I simply call Seoul. I have the Seoul immi office on speed dial now.
Live and learn. |
