My school, true to the end, are doing things the hard way.

My contract finishes on the 31st of August (sunday). On this day, the banks are closed. My school has informed me that they will NOT pay my severance money into my bank account back home and they will NOT pay my severance money on Friday 29th or Saturday 30st.

My bank card does not work overseas. Therefore on Sunday I will have approx 2 mil sitting in my bank account before my flight leaves in the afternoon.

My bank is KB star and as far as I know I just have a basic account.

How much can be withdrawals can I make and at how much? Am i right in thinking 1 million is the maximum I can withdraw in one day?

Thanks!

Why don't you speak with a teller? Then they could give you all the cash back.

You ATM card is set for whatever limit you signed it up for when you first got it. The limits can be changed but you have to do that with your bank branch.

I suggest that you not tell your hogwon that you are leaving the next day after your contract finishes. If you are out of the country there is a reasonable chance they won't pay you. They might think you are not in Korea and you can't do anything about it.

Change your departure date. Extend your visa if necessary. Tell them you are going to tour around Korea for a couple of weeks after your contract finishes. They will be much less likely to steal your money if they think you will still be in Korea.

I've seen people get screwed like this several times. Better safe than sorry.

Good luck.

Im in a public school

Does anyone know what is the correct procedure for public schools to follow.

So from the above advice, as long as I change my limit tomorrow I should be fine to withdraw all the money on sunday?

You should be fine as far as the ATM goes.

Most Korean ATM cards let you withdraw between 600k - 1 million won per transaction (machine limit and NOT a card limit)

and

usually 5 million per day (card/account limit).

I do however question the money actually being deposited into your account on the Sunday. I have NEVER heard of a public school doing this. Your contract should state that you get paid out on the Friday if the payout falls on a weekend.

I would definitely try to extend you departure. Even though you are at a public school, I wouldn't trust them.

It just sounds sketchy.

It's worth waiting a week just to make sure the money is deposited and in your hands before you leave.
