I had a thought and I hope a chemist catches on to it. A psychotropic drug that aids expatriates and foreign workers acculturate to a new environment or country of adoption.

Each country ie The Middle East, Asia, The Americas both South and North, Europe and Icelandic Countries have designer drugs suited and tailored chemically for adjustment to norms, values and ways of adapting to a country's system of operation and communication. That would make the transition process easier for everybody to settle in to a country; thus streamlining communication and reducing the stress of adapting to new values.

I have no idea what chemical number crunching is involved here but I know Zoloft maybe a close approximation to it. However, this proposed drug of independence would have to meet international health and regulation requirements. New medicine alternatives native to the country of adoption would be usefull. Anyone know a cyber-futurist-chemist?

This is not Orwell, this is 2008 A.D

Revision-Edit: It would make alcohol redundant. As it stands, many foreign workers are dependant on it to shake off jet lag, frustrations of communication and homesickness.

Yeah, dream on. I dont see any drug-maker targeting such a niche market, if one exists at all, and would sufficiently outperform the standard use of anxiety- and depression-related standard meds.

And I highly doubt the people would want alcohol redundant! Nothin' like drowning your sorrows away in some dive bar half way around the world.....

If you really want to acculturate yourself, it's as simple as getting off your duff and doing it. I highly doubt those that arent motivated enough to do that would treat it with a medication. A real one, anyway. Psychotrops are developed with the idea in mind of being tracked and monitored by a shrink. why bother with that when you can just drink your problems away? Laughing

What a stupid idea. Anti-depressants are for people who want to numb themselves from reality.

Instead of making changes in themselves they just pop a happy pill so they can pretend things are o.k.

Depression is not a lack of Zoloft in your body. Pain is not a lack of Tylenol.

Nice world we live in when so many people think it is o.k. to numb themselves from reality.

Learn to feel your emotions and not block out the ones you don't like the feeling of .
As a note some people are really clinically depressed and need meds- the other 99% are a cash cow for drug companies.

Change your diet, change your life and deal with the real reason you dont feel well.

I am sad to run into so many people who are on this kind of crap these days.

I guess I was expecting constructive replies, but it only demonstrates that degenerate drunks have nothing better to do than sit in a corner with a beer and wallow in negativity. I may try another forum. When the tablet is invented I will be recognised as a pioneer of medication for adaptation.

JC Edit.

I may not be much more help than the other responders. I recall a recent drug trial where traumatic event victims or witnesses were given a med that buffered the recollection of the event. It was about the same time as September 11 happened and many people became very interested. I don't have a strong opinion on this but I can imagine it's use for people to reduce PTSD. I can also say that emotional trauma and suffering sure makes us human and seems to make the cream rise to the top of our species.

I like this quotation about the drug "soma" from A Brave New World:

Quote:
"All the advantages of Christianity and alcohol; none of their defects."
