I have a question about severance pay. Is this pro-rated?

I signed a contract for a year. Finished the year. Employer asked me to stay on another six months. My six months is close to an end. Since I put 18 months of service in, does this mean I get *one and a half months'* severance (by pro-rated method of coming to a sum)? Or just one months' severance for the one full year (not pro-rated)?

Thanks in advance.

Legally, NO. It is NOT pro-rated. You are entitled to get one month's salary for each FULL year of employment completed.

Having said that, if you negotiated more when you re-signed, power to you and good job.

If you didn't, then you can expect your extra months salary when you leave.

That's true. The employer is legally obligated to provide you with only one month's severance after a year of service.

Is your employer interested in signing you for ANOTHER six-month go-round? If so, you need to make sure you'll get another severance jack if you finish the next half-year contract. I don't know if two six-month completions are considered the same as one single-year completion. I assume 'yes', but you never know. You'd be smart to find out.
