Just to let you all know.... the process for the affidavit of a CBC at the US Embassy took all but 20 minutes when they opened this morning. Just brought my passport and the CBC. Just wanted to let you all know. Wink

was it an official notarized copy of the CBC from your state?

and did it need to come in a sealed envelope?

i have SOOOO little time to accomplish this task and i'm a bit nervous about not getting it done on time...

I ordered mine online (from the state department) and had someone mail it to me. It came in a normal white envelope, and when opened, was just a piece of white paper with my name on it and "no record found". It looked SO crap! Like I had done it up in 5 minutes.
But I took it in with money and my passport, and it was all good. You have to write an affidavit stating the veracity of the report and THAT is what they notarize. They didn't even really look at the CRC. Immigration accepted it without a second glance.

Yup, the above OP said it. Not sealed with three words on the back. No Arrest Record.

I did the same thing, took the CBC, notarized (apostilled) by the US Embassy
and the Immigration office accepted it, issued me a new visa and ARC.

An hour later, the immigration office called my employer asking her to bring my ARC and Visa BACK to them because they made a mistake. So they took my VISA away from me in the long run. The man said that apostilled CBCs from the US Embassy are NOT valid. I would go about doing this another way. You will save yourself a LOT of frustration.

If you read the sticky about this matter, it gives you the name and number of a bigwig in Immigration that the officer should call if you have this problem. Some people have reported problems like this, but it IS acceptable, as many people have done it this way.

If you encounter any difficulties in this process, there are several points of contact available to assist you.

At the U.S. Embassy, Mr. Hale VanCoughnett is familiar with Korean Immigration's regulations and has been in contact with them regarding this matter.

If a local immigration office is reluctant to accept a background check authenticated by this method, contact Mr. Namil Choi (최남일) at the Korea Immigration Service. According to Mr. Lee at Immigration, Mr. Choi's opinion is the final word on E-2 visa mattershe trumps the officers in the branch offices. His office number is (02) 500-9068 .
