I have just started teaching two kids, 5 and 7, who are taking part in some presentation competition at their public school. I've never taught public school, so it's the first time I've come across this.
They have to memorize about 3 pages of typed script, and then present them in the most over-the-top exaggerated way. they'll also be in costume, and have props. The one kid is reciting a fable, and the other is telling a detective story. the kids have already memorized their scripts, i have to help them with the delivery. From what I can tell, a lot of hand gestures and ridiculous facial expressions are necessary. It's going to be a fun 8 days!
Have you heard of this, or had any similar experiences with this before? |

I've done a lot of work on preparing middle school students for such contests and a little bit of work helping my Korean friend's elementary students for one such contest. The first thing you need to find out is wether the judges will be Koreans or foreigners. If they latter, they may not be as impressed with all of the ridiculous jestures and Koreans would be.
There's a lot you can work on in terms of phonics to help kids that age improve, besides just repeating after you - especially with intonation, stress, and final consonant joints. Training them to look at the audience when they speak is also very important. |
