you can listen to a 2 hour special of the Democratic National Convention this week at 9 p.m. here:

http://www.democracynow.org/

*edit* so sorry - not live video - if you click on "stations" you can select a station that broadcasts audio (i.e., a radio station) and listen live but apparently the video won't be live via streaming - I wasn't aware of that.

The video stream on the website should be up around midnight (or a little later) Seoul time, however.

If you aren't sure what radio station to select, New York State has several (again, go to Stations on the top menu); they all broadcast on different times; some live, some not. Dem Now broadcasts at 8 a.m. every morning M-F so if you want to listen to the live program, choose a station that broadcasts the show at that time.

you'll see podcasts and other ways available as well; if you go to the page before 9 it will still have Friday's broadcast up.

next week Sept 1st they'll cover the Republican Natl Convention for 2 hours a night, also live.

if you miss the live show you can download/watch it in a number of different formats; all information is on the website.

Convention info is here:

Two Iowan delegates, back to back.

I'm getting REAL tired of Iowa.

Edited: A real snooze this day was. Hopefully the next few days will be more interesting.

I think Hillary is schedule to speak on Tuesday and Bill on Wednesday

Obama has been criticized for having the Clintons have so much attention during the convention

Tired of the REAL people who eat in cafes and diners?

Oh noes.

Addendum: If I ever get to the point where I watch live coverage of a political convention, please shoot me.

most, if not all of them, are historical events for many reasons.

live coverage by Dem Now consists of several critiques of BOTH candidates - Monday's coverage offered incredible in depth discussion of the Daley's Democratic mechanisms and how not just anyone can be elected to public office, much less to the presidency.

there was also a live interview with Ron Kolvich (sp?) from "Born on the 4th of July" fame - for those of you who might be unfamiliar with him - he was an enlistee who went to Vietnam, came back with a purple heart and paralyzed from the waist down. He was played by Tom Cruise in a film of the above-stated name. He joined with veterans against the Vietnam War and is stil active for veterans's rights today.

Well, no. I have to disagree. Other than the '68 Democrat Convention (and that was about what was happening outside, what great historical event happened inside the convention? Nothing), little if anything of note is produced. What was historical about 2004? Maybe Nancy jumping sides, that's about it. Impact? Nothing worth mentioning.

Right, so I should tune into DNC coverage for analysis of both candidates? I'm sorry I missed that. I'll be sure to tune in for the RNC version.

Yes. You kind of have to prostitute yourself one way or another. That's why we never got to see the Chomsky v. Bailey election. I'd have bought popcorn for that.

Ron Kovic is all good, but both of these parties blow. Yes, I'm for Obama, but he's one of two choices resulting from a crap system, and Ima vote for McCain anyway, just like I did my civic duty of voting for Dole. I love democracy!

Furthermore, people who don't know who they are voting for at this point are retarded. Don't get me wrong. I respect those who differ from me ideologically and want McCain based on their beliefs, but I absolutely despise those who are about to get unmerited media attention because they are so dim that they're going to let a propaganda slugfest determine their decision. If you don't know right now who you're voting for, you deserve to be shipped to a small island where you can watch re-runs of Jay Leno until this is all over.

Nowhere Man

if you never watched the convention coverage and never followed up about what was going on - then how can you say that nothing historical happened?

Just because it's not in the history books - which really says nothing at all.

It's poignant to be able to discuss how things were portrayed at conventions, what the mood the country was in - this time it's historical because of how sharply the U.S. has turned against the war in Iraq compared to how supportive people were in the beginning - that alone, is an incredible event.

This aspect can NOT be compared to Vietnam - a war which was kind of snuck in, to put it bluntly - people really didn't understand what was going on - there was a gradual build up and only because it was fully covered on the evening news did the general populace learn about how gritty and ugly it was becoming.

The Iraq and Afgh conficts, on the other hand, have had soldiers with cell phones, laptops, digital cameras and video cameras sending home quite different info from what the mainstream media was saying to people. As a result, the tide turned quicker than before and also as a result, the polictal tide followed.

It's hard to get people interested in politics when they take such an apathetic view of the world - that they can't make a difference, their vote doesn't count, etc. - it's important to know you still can participate, and people still DO participate.

if you are an American, this is indeed, an historical time and I hope you look around closely and remember it for the sake of the next generation.

Right. Nobody spoke at the 2004 DNC who was an unknown quantity and would later go on to make an impact. Nobody at all.

I caught the last few moments of Hillary's speech - which Bill seemed to enjoy immensely as the cameras kept spotlighting him - and then I got to see the "Seoul" of the Democratic Convention:

Two Korean United Methodist pastors, Rev. Youngsook Kang and her husband, Rev. Jin Ho, gave the benediction message, focusing on "creating a community that demands justice for workers in the market and that seeks peace..."
Rev. Kang is superintendent of the Metropolitan District of the Rocky Mountain Conference, and Rev. Ho is pastor of Christ Central Korean UMC in Aurora, CO.

They indicated their support for the Democratic party, and - in heavy Korean accents - expressed their hope that immigrants would continue to be given every chance to succeed in the U.S.

**places hand over heart**

OK, I see. The conventions are important because people saw Vietnam on the evening news and now soldiers have cellphones and video cameras. Got it.

Doh! I forgot about that. That unknown quantity. That stirring speech about, well, the usual and how it blasted John Kerry's campaign right into, um, second place. Pivotal. History right before your eyes. People will be analyzing that for years to come.

Aye, trolling historical events is quite low. I'll step back and just watch...CHiPs re-runs.
