I'm due to fly to Korea on August 14. My flight is booked and paid for. I have sent all my documents to the school in order for them to process my E-7 visa. I still have NOT received a visa issuance number and, after talking with someone at the Korean consulate today, was told that it would take five business days to process the application once they receive all the documents. There is no way the visa can be issued before my flight.
Now, is there ANY way to solve this? I am not sure if the ticket date can be altered or not. I suspect that it will be difficult (and possibly expensive) as there are not many seats available. I guess I COULD go without a visa but would want something in writing from immigration that the visa is "in progress" or something. I'm not sure if my employer would be willing to send me off to Japan and, if not, this job is getting expensive! It seems like someone there was "pounding the pooch" as I applied for the job months ago and they took ages to do anything.
They have all my original documents and so I can't even get another job.
Has anyone ever had a similar experience? If so, did you mangage to solve it? How?
Thanks for any information. |

Unless you can change your air ticket date, you'll have to come to Korea on a tourist visa and your employer will HAVE to send you on a visa run to Japan. You'd better get in touch with him/her and figure out how you're going to Japan (air/ferry) and get tickets because they're not going to let you onto the plane to Korea as a tourist with only a one-way ticket. |

Thank you. I actually have a return ticket. Would this make it easier to go as a tourist? |

If you have a round-trip ticket, no problem!
Except... it probably expires Aug. 14, 2008 (before you have finished your contract). Think about that. |

E-7 Status (Other Particular Occupations)
A. The Object of Visa Issuance
This visa category applies to foreigners who desire to work for public or private organizations as a cook, teacher of school for foreigners only, etc., other than those in E-1 status through E-6 status.
