So it's Friday night and I was asleep for about an hour or so. My wife rolled over and that woke me up. At the same time I hear a crash in the other room. Being asleep and having no logical explanation come to mind-- no pets- I think "what if there is an intruder"? anyway, I listen for a minute and hear no other sound so check it out. The toothbrush holder in the bathroom- with little suction cups, fell off into the sink. What I was thinking before I discovered this is that I would have felt much better seeing what the noise was if I had a gun or weapon. I think that knowing most in Korea don't have guns is also a nice thought though. |

You could always buy one of those plastic bb guns. You know the ones they sell at toy stores/kids shops in your neighborhood.
If you shoot an intruder in the face it will give you time to rush em with a bodycheck/kick to the head etc.
Would you take a suggestion though? If you are worried about intruders, buy an aluminum baseball bat.
A little "fishing bat" (you know the mini bat you whack fish with after you catch them) would also help you.
Wouldn't suggest anything with knives, they can be easily turned back on you...harder to turn a swinging bat back on the person swinging it. |

Get a shinai (called a jook-do in Korean). It's a kendo stick, and pretty good for this sort of application. You can get them in varying sizes (eg, kids sizes).
They're cheap, very light, and easy to swing around. You don't need any training.
The advantage is that they're light, and they hurt like hell.
There are also solid wood ones used for kata (pattern work) and these are REAL weapons. Easily break bones with the right swing. The problem is you need a bit of room to move with it, but there's nothing quite as fearsome as a shadowy character with what looks like a samurai sword come at you, to protect his domain.. :)
Good point from Mr Pink tho, you don't want something that can be turned onto you.
Maybe a blackjack isn't so bad. :D
