At home I had no trouble committing to weight training and making gains. In Seoul due to hagwon teacher commitments, Itaewon "socializing" and unhealthy food I eat, cost of food, cooking facilities, I struggle to get the correct nutrition on time and get the recovery needed outside the gym. I often feel run ragged despite working only 25 hrs a week, outside the gym and unable to put in a good work out. Working out properly is just to much hassle over here!
So I was wondering if anyone could recommend where I can pick up some "whey protein" (non steroids) to supliment my diet? or suggest nutritious quality protein Korean meals (not fish/kimbap) I can quickly eat? I work in a hagwon 6 hours straight so something I can quickly assimilate between lessons would be useful..as I need to have a substantial meal every 3 hours to make the training worthwhile.
At the moment my weight gaining diet plan is as follows:-
Meal 1 Milk/tofu/fruit/milk powder blended
Meal 2 Tuna Pasta/Omlette/boiled eggs
Meal 3 "Salong tang"?/other take away meal
Meal 4 -missed out due to hagwon work-
Meal 5 Steak/Potatoes/Veg or Chicken pasta
How do you get around the nutrition and rest problems over here?
(excuse my spelling/grammer) |

I don't mean to rip on you, but "Working out properly is just too much hastle over here" is pure BS.
It's easy to make excuses. Start a routine and stick to it no matter what and you'll see results.
You can buy Whey at Costco, also most gyms will sell it too but it's overpriced. There are bodybuilding stores, but don't know any in Seoul. |

You forgot to mention the commitment to the unhealthy foods and Itaewan socializing the OP has. Get some self-control while you're at Costco too... |

www.mass119.com for whey and other supplements. You may need a Korean to help you order. Delivery within a few days usually. |

1. Limit unhealthy food. Don't stop eating it, just cut down so you eat it like once or twice a week.
2. Workout in the mornings. Get up early, workout, and then take a nap before you teach. Get your body used to that routine.
3. Lay off the alcohol. If you have to drink, just drink vodka. Beer is your worst enemy.
Try to eat other Korean dishes. Bibimbap is nutritious and filling. Meat dishes can be had like Jehyookbokum (spicy pork) or bulbogi dup bap. Soondooboo chigae is a spicy soup with a lot of tofu that is delicious. Go get Korean barbeque. Its nothing but meat and lettuce. |

For diet I eat lots of vegetables with a lean protein. Cruciferous vegetables are the best. Just eat them with go chu chang Your body absorbs protein at different rates. Egg whites and fish are absorbed at a higher percentage than meats. Nuts are great but they do have alot of fat.
I do prefer beer to vodka (I wouldn't drink anything more intense than wine) but I"m 62 kilos and probably need to gain weight.
As for lifting I would check out stronglifts.com. But the main thing is, *get* to the gym. For motivation, I"ve never not lifted if I got my butt in the gym.
I had a great day in the gym today, hit prs in the clean and the military press, and really these are my weakest lifts (yes I have failed a clean with cute korean girls in the gym and the bar came crashing to the ground ). It was so rewarding to get those prs. NO one ever regrets going to the gym.
YOu can do it! |
