Hello,

I am always prepare accordingly. So, it looks like there might be a short transition period between jobs. That being the case, I would be interested in getting some information about some fairly cheap places in Seoul that I could stay for 2 weeks to one month. I'm sure that there have been other people in such situations. I can't imagine spending 30,000 won a night for a yeogwan room. Any guest houses in Korea? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, many in Jongno Area...called Seoul Backpackers, 17000/night dorm bed...free internet and breakfast....clean but people not so friendly...cut a deal for longer stay......good sauna across the street and 3 min. walk from Insadong. Call 1330 for info.

Hi Wish,

I'll give you the lowdown based on recent, personal experience and I doubt the price and location can be beat.

Goshiwon=a room the size of a closet with a mini-single bed a chair and a desk.

Price: approx-250,000 won per month-negotiable, IMO, as regular rate was apparently 15,000 nightly and I negotiated 3 days prepaid for 30,000. Feel I could knock down the price on a longer stay also.
Located: Itaewon. Above the bald eagle (near Burger King, just around the corner from the UN Club on your left about 30 feet, building beside or almost beside 7-11, up the stairs on the 4th (or so) floor.

Based on price alone I don't think it can be beat. Bring some warm clothes (I slept in mine, plus jacket) as it got cold on the nights I was there. Whether someone left a window open I don't know-or maybe generally cold. Very quiet. Looks dangerous outside but safe inside.Great hot showers.

PM me if you need more details. I can't say enough about them if one is in survival mode and needs (or wants) to mega-conserve cash.

GG

Try the Yoinsuks. they go as low as W10,000 a night. You get your own room with a TV. No dormitory. Shower is comunal though, but they clean everything quite thoroughly. When I use them I make sure there is a sauna near by, and an office building with western toilets. you can do a deal with them too for a reduced rate.
