Is it illegal? Yes, technically. Others can tell you if they actually got deposit money back at the end of their time at their school. |

It is only illegal if you DON'T have the clause in your contract and they take it anyway.
If you agree BEFORE you begin employment and contractually agree to it BEFORE you begin employment then it is NOT illegal.
I have never heard of anyone who has completed their contract OR anyone who has quit early with proper notice who has NOT received their deposit back (less any damage or outstanding bills).
If you pull a runner you will lose it.
