|
|
Hi, I'm thinking of going to Japan for three days. I was hoping there was someone on here who could give me some tips.
1) If you had three days in Tokyo what would you see? Where would you stay?
2) If you only had three days in Japan which city would be the most immersive culturally and for sight seeing?
3) What kind of place is Fukokoa? |

1) HAHA...pick one. Tokyo is simply amazing, and it really depends on whatyou're there for, and what you're interested in. The place has everything, so you're going to need to provide some detail.
As for a place to crash, I prefer Shibuya (expensive) or the Shinjuku area (a little cheaper). Even without a JR pass, staying anywhere on the Yamanote line is a good idea.
2) Again, it depends on what you're after. Kyoto is the place to see temples (best done in winter to avoid the crowds and heat). Three days is NOT enough, however, to do both Tokyo and Kyoto. Not even close.
3) Fukuoka is lovely. The food rocks. The locals are nice. It's also a party town, if that's what you're looking for. |

probably the usual places if it`s your first time......Asakusa, Royal Palace, Shibuya, Akihabara, Harajuku. I really like Odaiba and it`s well worth visiting especially towards the evening.
As for places to stay? depends on your budget but I heard Khaosan Tokyo hostel is ok and super cheap but clean and reasonable.
btw, it`s well worth getting the JR Tokunai Pass (730 Yen) which you can buy from any station in central Tokyo and it`s unlimited travel on JR lines. |

I LOVED Tokyo!! I stayed at the Oak Hotel (40$ per person/night) at Ueno station, and also at a Ryokan type of place (same price, but a little out of the way:

I mostly just walked around Shibuya, Harajuku, Shinjuku...
Kyoto is the more traditional place, it is worth a visit. It was lovely. I stayed at a youth hostel for 25$ per night, in a mixed dorm. It was comfortable, although I almost killed some snoring guy.
I also loved Fukuoka! I agree with the previous poster, the food is amazing, and it's just a lovely place in general. Worth spending a day or two there, eat a meal by the canal, and just walk around, drink on the bridge, etc. |

Thanks for the replies! Okay I've decided on Tokyo. I'm really into people watching, museums, architecture, public art, and I love the anime scene.
I really want to see ghibili stuidos if that is possible.
any recommendations on places to stay in a great location but around 50$ a night? |

With only three days, you might want to consider missing Studio Ghibli. It'll take around half a day to get out to Miitaka and back, you have to buy your ticket in advance (difficult if you don't speak Japanese) and the museum itself is very kid-oriented and may be anticlimatic (when I went, a lot of the space was given over to Aardman Animation, of Wallace and Gromit fame - though this could have been temporary). |
