Hey, anyone know what "Up,up,down, down, left, right, left, right, start" is? Korea's great and all but being a console gamer here is a bit of a tough gig. Anyone here who is a heavy gamer ever miss having conversations about games like which is the better RPG: Final Fantasy VI or Xenogears?
Maybe it's just me, but I do. |

While I'd consider myself more of a PC gamer, certain console games are up there in my favorites. I think that the best RPG to date is Chrono Trigger on SNES.
I just found a really cool device the other day. If you feel the need for some classic gaming on the go, look into this baby -----> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRv7oJWTzS0 |

Sounds familiar.. done at the company logo screen right? Forgot which game.
I don't think this forum's the right place to talk about games though. If you want hardcore gamers, there are better forums for that. |

The game could be Street Fighter 2 for SNES, it was to unlock the option for alternate colors to character garbs.
Might be a common code for Capcom games though... I think there was a similar code for Rocketman. |

Oh so it's the Konami code.
I must've used the code for Ninja Turtle games. |

Yeah, I used to use that for Contra and Life Force.
Although I can't get enough of WOW, I do miss some of the old games. Zelda, Final Fantasy 1, Super Metroid, etc. One of the last "old games" that I played was a game called "Demon's Crest" for the Super Nintendo. Fun times. |

Your geek cred is shot with me. Trust me, you ain't getting any extra lives by putting in that botched attrocity. The correct code:
Quote: |
↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → B A is the original version of the code, designed for the NES controller. In many popular representations of the code, "Start" is added at the end of the sequence. This is because in many of the early occurrences of the code, "Start" had to be pressed before any effects of the code could be seen. In these cases, "Start" either started or unpaused the game. "Select" is also sometimes inserted at the end of the code, but in this instance, the code would be input at the title screen, and pressing "Select" usually switched the players option from one to two for cooperative play (as in Contra). The player can actually press "Select" before inputting the code and it will still take effect. The exact sequence varies from game to game, and has been adapted to fit the button layouts of different video game consoles. In mobile phone games by Konami, B and A are substituted with 5, 7, and 3 on the numerical pad, which is the goroawase pronunciation for "konami."

As someone else posted, there is a "tech" thread on this website full of geeks much geekier than you. Try going there for tech talk. |

Although you were only using it as an example, I must say: I don't understand why FF is so popular. Every FF game is a tedious crawl through endless repetitive battles. The "random" encounters are the worst... walk five feet, battle, walk ten feet, another battle, repeat ad nauseum.
Best RPG ever? Morrowind. Although I think the Fallout games were damn good as well. I'm hoping Bethesda keeps up the tradition and puts out an amazing product. |

I only liked FF 1. Man, that was a long time ago. I looked at the rest, and it's too anime for my tastes.
Morrowind? I used to play that game. I prefer Diablo 2 and WOW. Morrowind was great, but there were too many things about it that bothered me.
1. Too large of an area.
2. City names that would dislocate your tongue, trying to pronounce.
3. The transportation system. Those bug rider things, they didn't give you a clear way of going from one city to another. Just lots of trial and error.
4. There's just a point in the game where you get too powerful. And there's also a point where you get so much money and nothing to spend it on.
That game had some awesome graphics, though. |
