My co-teacher showed me two amendment that GEPIK has made to their standar contract. They've increased the basic housing allowance to 400,000 won/month and increased vacation time from 14 to 20 days per year. The extra vacation time is nice, but I think they need to get the housing allowance up to 500,000/month.

xCustomx - Thanks for keeping us updated.

Now, stupid question...Is this ammendment to be applied to contracts that have already been renewed?

My school will not give me more money easily (since they've already refused to give me the extra 100K for renewing). Would call GEPIK but Wenise is gone and the replacement won't be starting 'til Sept.

The vacation time has been talked about on this forum a few times already. But it's good news nonetheless.

Countrygirl - I was on 2.0 million won a month and automatically got 2.1 for my second year of work (at the same school). How could they refuse to give you the extra 100k, I think you're entitled to it, for your second year as a GEPIK teacher.

I would have told GEPIK about that.

I believe these amendments take affect from September 2008. It won't apply to people who renewed before that date.

Whenever you sign another GEPIK contract, after Sep 2008, you'll get the new benefits. I'm looking forward to May 2009. Laughing

I was at the top of the payscale so the extra hundred is not mandatory and is up to the school. If I can get an extra 100 for rent, that would soften the blow.

My new contract starts Sept 2008 so that's why I wonder if these new ammendments will apply to my new contract. Since I signed the contract already, I can see a big fight starting if the rules are not clear. If I don't get the extra money for rent or raise, I really wonder why I am staying and have been seriously thinking of leaving. Extra money for rent would make me happy.

Yeah I tried Wenise. I was referred to Dain instead, she straightened things out for me...

My husband renewed his contract in July, but it officially starts in September. Where is this written so that we could read it, or so that we could potentially show it to his coworker? I can't find any info on the GEPIK site.

I don't know if it has been put into the new contracts. The amendments that I saw were on two pieces of paper, which explained in both Korean and English of the changes.
