I just heard a rumor that the Office of Education is going to move me from one boys middle school to another within my city. It might just be a rumor and die in a day.

I absolutely do not even for a minute, want to go to the other school.

I would rather be moved to a much more rural area for the year. I want to stay in my province, because I'm moving to a level 1 EPIK and I don't want to lose it.

Given that it's so hard to place people in the rural areas, might this request be viewed favorably? Anybody had experience with this?

This should not be a problem. Most Gepiks want jobs that border on Seoul. Talk to your superviser.

Any contractions yet? Razz

So the trend is for folks to migrate closer to urban populations rather than away from them? Cool.

Should not be a problem, as I asked for a switch from a rural area to an urban one and got my desired location.

I think you have it backwards. I want to go MORE rural. Smaller town, less people. If i'm not at my school here, I think it's time to explore somewhere else.

I think I'm kind of over a barrel here. It would be incredibly difficult to pack an apartment, and move with a newborn. On a side note, our first son was born the day after we moved houses in the Philippines.

Contractions. Yes. That was a little problem in the summer.

Hey Korea. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Those EPIK guys would love to place anyone who requests someplace more rural. I'm sure if the EPIK co-ordinator in your province gets wind of the request, you'll get your favored request, IF there isn't someone already working there and wanting to stay.

Yes, well, I don't have a specific place in mind, just some general wants. Small, quiet, safe for kids. I don't need other foreigners for a social life. I'm happy enveloping myself in my family.
My biggest concern however is the likely increased cost of living. My oil, ater, and electrical bills where I am are very low. Water/14K, electric/20-30k, oil during winter/100k a month. That's pretty good. I would be freaked if my oil bill suddenly went to three or four hundred thousand a month.
I think also without having a specific place in mind, it might be difficult for the coordinator to place me. I think I will spend tomorrow doing some research online on other communities...

Some apartments are just expensive. There's also a lot of scams out there with gas companies misreading the meter and everyone envolved pocketing the cash. Try for an apartment with central heating.
