While going through a recruiter I would like to make sure that I gain a position teaching at one of Gepik's, middle or high schools only, but I am concerned that I will be stuck teaching elementary. The reason I say this is do to the fact, I noticed the following article on the Gepik contract,
Article 6(Work Place)
1. Employee shall work at one of the Gyeonggi elementary, middle, or high schools appointed by Employer.
Will the recruiter be able to have the type of grade level written into the contract or is this pretty much standard with Gepik as well as S.M.O.E and Epik. Will they will put you at what grade level they need at the time, even though your experience is dealing with middle and high school students ? Any help would be appreciated. |

There are some factors involved. If you have a degree in secondary education, and/or experience working in secondary schools, then the chances are higher for you to work in a middle or high school. But, there needs to be a position open in a middle or high school. This is an uncontrollable factor. I was lucky enough to get two top high schools in Jeju-si, Jeju because of my degree. But if those positions weren't available I probably would've been stuck in an elementary school. And, if Gepik is anything like EPIK, you won't know what school you're teaching until you arrive in Korea. They'll tell you the reason for this is because they don't know yet, but they probably don't want people turning down contracts before they arrive in Korea because of grade level or school. |

I notice some recruiters post openings for the different cities in the Gepik area with the type of school next to it? |

I am with GEPIK, and not only was I able to choose the school I wanted, but I also got the location I wanted. This might just be the benefit of already being in the country. So, you might want to consider coming here first, get an interview with the school first and then sign the contract. If you sign the contract first and get assigned to a school later, you are more likely to have a year with a school you don't want to be at. |
