I can't believe I've lived here this long, yet Thursday was the first time I'd seen it.

Pretty cool place, if you're into music or audio electronics.

Nagwon is a giant music mall located in Central Seoul and containing over 200 stores that sell instruments and recording gear of all varieties. Many stores also do repairs. You have the opportunity to bargain on the price of whatever youre after. If the vendors wont budge then just start to walk away and theyll likely have a quick change of heart.

The easiest way to get there is to take the subway to Jongno-3-ga. No matter what line you take you need to walk to the purple line (line 5) and make your way out of exit 4 or 5; theyre right next to each other. You should take the one with stairs, not the escalator. At the top of the stairs youll be on a street corner and an alley will be visible slightly off to your right. Theres a small sign pointing in the right direction that reads Nagwon Arcade, however there is no sign on the building. Once in the alley you will see a couple flights of stairs on your left side. Take them to the top and youre in like Flynn.

Check out what's playing at the Seoul Art Cinema while you're there.

it's decent, but you'll find it isn't very cheap. most things they sell are cheaper in Japan or better to order through the internet and have delivered (particularly if you have any military friends).

I've also heard from the Korean musicians that I know that the owner is not the nicest person in the world.

you'll find that despite the appearance of being many shops, thus offering competition, they all sell the same things at the same prices and get them from the same places. An example: The store Cosmos is the ONLY licensed Boss retailer, so they get the Boss products and then give them out to the other shops.

They ought to tear down the partitions and make the place just one super store. That way, in won't be such a scavenger hunt trying to find all the things you need.

I go there mainly for strings or to have guitar work done. there's an ajosshi there who does a good job repairing guitars (neck, electronics, etc) plus is really nice. price is right as well.

Korea's like that everywhere.

I was able to find some price differences on some items. Big name-brands are always subject to higher prices in Korea -- you've got to hunt around to find a bargain.

I go there mainly for eye candy and to try out guitars. Nice place to stroll around and look at all the toys.

Yeah; all of the "marts" are essentially giant make-work projects. They all sell the same crap; most of it's knock-off; no real "deals".

It all just makes me long for a Best Buy.
