So I just moved here to Suwon for my new job and am wondering if anyone can offer some basic advice about a couple things.
First off I'm wondering where the night life is here. I know a ton of people go into Seoul to party, but I don't really wanna do the 90 min commute from Sinchon very often, so would like to find a couple areas here. I found a forum post a while back that gave some areas, but then also noticed that the post was from a few years ago. What's new?
Second any suggestions on a good gym to go to? A martial arts dojo of some kind would be great, but I'll go with whatever I can find.
Finally are there any Korean hagwons that offer classes at night? I work during the days and so the ones I've found are impossible.
Just FYI I live very near World Cup Stadium, and haven't learned my way around yet (though will soon I'm sure), so for gym/hagwon things near there would be fantastic.
Thanks tons! |

I don't gym and I don't study Korean at an institution, so I'll just answer the first question.
Nightlife in Suwon is basically centered around 2 areas:
There's a big street filled with bars, clubs and restaruants right across the road from Suwon station.
Then there's Ingyedong, similar sort of vibe, but things are spread out more...and it's a little more interesting, there is also an expat bar there (crazy duck) which can make for a nice fallback, starting place.
Bare in mind, both these areas are VERY korean and the clubs seem to play only HipHop.
In terms of location, I reckon you are half way between the two, Don't know the world cup stadium area to well, so cant help with bus numbers...but pretty much every second bus goes to Suwon station. |

I live about a 15 minute walk from the Suwon World Cup Stadium. Songtan is an hour away. There is a gym to the left and behind the world cup stadium. Pm sportsguy35 for information about Korean classes. |

Suwon Station (Friends Bar being the one with expats)
Ingadong (Crazy Duck)
Yeongtong (Now Bar has the most expats in Suwon) |

The 4-1 bus will take you to Yeongtong (gets off by home plus). So does one of the 720s (720-1 I think). The others go through Namun to Suwon station.
Most buses that pass by the stadium head to Suwon station. The 720 is one that is pretty frequent. Ask the driver "Suwon yalk guy-o?" for other buses.
Take a taxi to Ingyedong. It's about 3000-4000 won (depending what side you head for).

There are tons of bars by Suwon Station but i dont really know of any foreigners hanging out there, although i have been to some really cool bars there.
The Crazy Duck in IngyeDong is always packed at the weekends. I've never been to Now Bar in Yeongtong but i hear it's pretty popular.
There are also foreigners hanging out beside Sungkyunkwan Station which isn't too far from World Cup Stadium.
Also Wa Bar beside Manseok Park often has a lot of foreigners at the weekends.
If your not concerned with meeting foreigners, i'd say Suwon Station is your best bet. |

Thanks for the info. Guess I'll be hitting up Suwon Station sometime soon then to see what I can find around there. I'm not too concerned with meeting and hanging out with only foreigners, so that should be fun. Though no doubt I'll also hit up some of those foreigner hotspots.
I'll have to find that gym near World Cup Stadium, maybe that's the one that I heard about. It pretty big? At least it's quite near so I'll have that covered.
Still moving in and unpacking, but I'll be around, so I'm sure I'll run into some of ya sooner or later
Cheers! |
