|
|
For those of you who provided advice on my previous thread, I appreciate it. Any other comments from other users would also be welcomed here.
Are there any City By-laws to protect citizens from extreme noise violation? Especially bulldozing buildings 7 DAYS A WEEK from 7:00am to 10:00pm. Even one day reprieve would be appreciated. For example, previously a large steel barricade surrrounded the construction area which helped buffer the noise and dust. However, now there are just large SHEETS connected together surrounding the demolition areas. This has led to the increased noise and pollution.
My landlord recently told me that many property owners complained and the construction crew were told by the government to operate from 8:00am to 8:00pm. Of course, they have not followed this.
My questions are:
Does anyone know if the legal system is developed enough to file a complaint or even a lawsuit against the government (who are responsible for this government complex project)?
At the very least, what rights (if any) as current citizens do we have to protect our quaility of life in our homes?
I recognize that laws such as "disturbing the peace" or "excessive noise violations" most likely do not exist here (or at the very least are not enforced). However, there must be SOMETHING that can be done. Thanks again in advance. |

I don't have any links for sources, but as far as I know, you can complain about construction noise. I believe that the cut-off varies for location though (example, in Seoul or in Gyonggi).
The construction lot across the street from me has a decibel screen showing the sound that comes out of it 24/7 |

| I've seen where you live, and it looks like the noise is going to intensify very soon. Your first stop right now should be Yongsan gucheong, and bring a fluent Korean who's not intimidated by inconveniencing a large number of bureaucrats, as that's what you'll probably do. |
