I'm currently in Korea, finishing up and heading back to Canada in two weeks, yay!
Now I want to come back, possibly as early as November, but I might wait until the public school rehiring in March. Depends, will look for jobs at home and in Korea.
Now here's my problem. I'm originally from Toronto, but went to school in NS. I now have a Nova Scotia license, health card, etc. I'm not going back to Halifax though - no reason to - except possibly to get my CRC.
I can't get it in Toronto - no ID saying I live there. I can't get anyone to do it for me in NS without sending my fingerprints to Ottawa. I had a friend call the RCMP in Halifax and that's what they said.
So what I want to know is what are my other options? Are there any? I saw on another thread about the Winnipeg police dept and that it was approved at the Cdn embassy in Seoul and by Korean immigration. But I guess we have no idea whether it would be approved by the Toronto or Montreal consulate, right?
Basically I don't want to go to Halifax just to get my CRC. I also want to know if anyone knows whether I can have someone pick it up for me, or do I have to wait in Halifax for two weeks.
And just to make sure I understand I have to get it notarized, right? And does that have to be a notary in Nova Scotia? And then I send it to the embassy with the rest of my documents, right?
Maybe I could go to the RCMP in Ontario?
I feel like I'm stuck, and I don't want to do it, but I will. I just thought I'd see if anyone else had any suggestions.
Thanks! |

I don't see why the consulates would not accept the Winnipeg check. Phone them and ask if local checks are accepted. |

Why can't you get it in Toronto? My friend just got his last week and the only ID he showed was his passport and SIN. He didn't have a drivers license or even a health card. If you have a Toronto address while you are there and can wait for the CRC to be mailed to you in approximately 7 days then you are good.

Well I looked online and I saw here that the Toronto Police Department doesn't do them if you don't have a driver's license or something gov't issued/mailed with a Toronto address. And that they can't do the vulnerable sector search without a request from an employer.
Thanks for the suggestion to call the Consulate. I should have thought of that myself - but I find when I call and ask them things they never seem to know whats going on (Montreal at least). But maybe things have changed in the last year. |
