Interesting article in the
Ny times
Quote: |
In January 2007, at a time when the situation in Iraq appeared the bleakest, Mr. Bush chose a bold option that was at odds with what many of his civilian and military advisers, including his field commander, initially recommended. Mr. Bushs plan to send more than 20,000 troops to carry out a new counterinsurgency strategy has helped to reverse the spiral of sectarian killings in Iraq. |
The article made me a little more sympathetic towards Dubya and Cheney as well (who was a big proponent of the surge). It is also more evidence that Rumsfeld was the wrong Sec. of Defense for the war in Iraq.
Anyway, I think it is a good glimpse of policy-making in DC. We tend to view a president's decisions as clear-cut, but in reality it is far from simple or easy. |

Interesting article. But what would have happened if the Surge had not taken place? What if the US had followed the advice of Pelosi, Reid, Sheenhan, Code Pink, MoveOn and Obama? Would conditions on the ground in Iraq be the same as they are now? |

The surge myth isn't challenged much by the corporate media. Just like the invasion of Iraq wasn't. |

Then I guess the NY Times is in the tank for Bush. |
