Oh this is just sad:

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-columbia/story/2008/09/07/bc-prescription-for-profit.html?ref=rss

Drug addicts bring in a lot of business, by way of government money for their various prescriptions. But if those darn drug addicts break their drug habit (because they have no cash and have to go cold turkey), the pharmacies lose a great source of public funds. So, some enterprising pharmacists have taken to giving cash to addicts to buy a rock or two of crack. Just walk in, say you need cash to buy some crack, and the money is dutifully handed over. $10 will get you $20.

(bolding mine)

If only it were that simple MM2.

Drug dealer: "Oh crap, I am out of money."....."Guess I will just have to quit."

I know this is a side point, but I couldn't help it. Just too funny.

In a way those pharmacies are doing the non-crack addicted residents in the area a favor. 10 or 20 bucks from the local pharmacy means their car stereo remains where it is for another day.

I am over simplifying, of course. I don't think a crack addict that has to go 2 days without crack will up 'n' quit.

I will commend you on seeing another side. I've been to Vancouver. I've had things stolen out of my car. Pretty much anyone with Washington state plates on their car has an identical story about Vancouver. And yes, it's entirely possible there is less of a motive to keep 'em coming back with their government checks and more of a motive to keep cars safe.

You sure you don't want to charge through the opening I left you that this is evidence of the big pharma conspiracy to keep people hooked?

It isn't an oversimplification, it is just a ridiculous idea to begin with.

I lived in the east end of Vancouver during my university days. I lost a great aunt due to a heroin addiction and another just checked herself into rehab after 2 years of a crack addiction. It is an epidemic in Vancouver that is touching all people from all walks of life in one way or another.

I'll tell you this, I would rather have had either of my aunts receive 20 dollars from a pharmacy to buy their drugs than by any other means (use your imagination).

Now if they could just eliminate the drug pushers and have the pharmacies actually hand out the crack, that would be a million times better. In addition, your car wouldn't be robbed the next time. Heck, then they could just open up a safe injection site next door to reduce HIV and Hep.

Oh and by the way, it isn't just people with Washington plates that are getting jacked. Crack addicts aren't that picky.

As is your position on 9-11. Understand now how anyone can pull a conspiracy out of their butts.

Indeed we should legalize drugs. Mcdonalds and Burger King don't shoot each other for control of territory.

I never said that. However, WA plates are targeted as they are most likely tourists and have left valuables in their cars.

Quote:
Vancouver is a very safe city and consistently ranks in the top three of the worlds most livable cities. Like any major metropolitan area travel within certain parts of the city at night should be conducted with caution, in particular the infamous Downtown Eastside (specifically Hastings Street between Abbott and Gore) and the Whalley area of Surrey. Parked cars with foreign or out of province licence plates are especially likely to be targeted for theft in these parts of town.

I understand that anyone can pull a conspiracy out of their butt. 9-11 is a seperate issue here. Lets not get distracted.

Excellent we finally agree on something.
